The Structures Engineer Authorized Person (AP) reports to the Director of Engineering.  Matters related to Transport Canada delegated functions will be overseen by the Chief Authorized Person.

 Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for certification of structural modifications to Part 23/25/27/29 aircraft and their components.
  • Make findings of compliance against structural certification standards within the Transport Canada scope of delegation.
  • Designs alterations to aircraft structure, systems, equipment, and furnishings
  • Analyzes structures (hand calculations, finite element, fatigue & damage tolerance)
  • Reviews and approves design and engineering documents
  • Conduct Engineering Conformity Inspections
  • Witness Certification Testing
  • Ensure all design and administrative paperwork related to project certification is maintained in accordance with the company DAPM and Engineering Procedures Manual.
  • Liaise with Transport Canada and/or foreign CAA staff as required.
  • Support other departments such as MRO, Avionics, Sales, and Customer Support.
  • Mentor junior design/engineering staff to assist their knowledge and skills growth.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Engineering or Chief Authorized Person.

  • Maintenance of the necessary knowledge and technical competency to act as a Transport Canada delegated AP within the Avmax DAO.

  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve technical and regulatory problems.

  • Ability to manage project tasks in a logical and organized fashion with clear documentation.


  • Currently, or within the previous 12 months, hold a Transport Canada airworthiness delegation (AP within another company or DAR) and be eligible to be delegated as an structures Authorized Person within the Avmax DAO.
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or mechanical engineering (other qualifications may be accepted).
  • Advanced job related degrees an asset.
  • Eng or equivalent in a related engineering field preferred.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of aircraft certification procedures.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of aircraft structural systems.
  • Familiar with part FAR 23, FAR 25, FAR 27 and FAR 29 aircraft.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office suite, CAD software (AutoCAD/SolidWorks preferred) and FEMAP.
  • Able to travel when necessary
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English (both written and verbal) and work well in a team environment.


  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Transport Canada delegated person.
  • Minimum 7 years aircraft certification experience with responsibilities covering the design and certification of structural repairs and modifications.
  • Minimum 10 years design and analysis experience in transport category aircraft structures.
  • Experience in fuselage penetrations, interior alterations, flammability, structural integration of equipment
  • Proficient in engineering software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, FEMAP, etc.)
  • Demonstrated capability and competency in field of expertise.
  • Experience in aircraft maintenance or fabrication is an asset
